BRCA 1 and BRCA 2

Genetics and Breast Cancer Risk

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on June 20, 2006.  My biopsy was on the day before which was, ironically, the 10th anniversary of my mother's death!  Due to my family history I had to be tested for BRCA 1 and BRCA 2.  I tested positive for BRCA 1 and suspicous for BRCA 2. Because of this diagnosis I had bilateral mastectomies and re-constructive surgery as well as fallopian tubes and ovaries removed.

If you have a family history like mine, you may want to consider having genetic testing to determine if you are BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 positive.
